Why should I join PTA?

Being involved with your child's school - being connected - helps you make the most of your child's time at Jefferson.  You can meet other parents and learn more about the school.  Or you can simply pay membership dues to show your support if you are unable to volunteer your time.  Either way, you’ll be part of creating a better learning environment for our children.

What does Jefferson PTA do?

Your PTA works to make Jefferson Middle School a better place for all the students and the staff, and to build a sense of community.  We support student events, such as dances and teen nights, offer Spirit Wear and host staff appreciation activities. We also support other various programs the school offers.

How does Jefferson PTA accomplish its goals?

To meet our goal of making Jefferson Middle School a better place for all the students and the staff, it takes money, and parents and teachers who are able to contribute.  We do need volunteers to assist with events such dances and teen nights, as well as parents who might offer cooking or baking skills for Teacher Appreciation Day.  We also understand that many parents’ aren’t able to volunteer because of work, caring for other children and other important commitments, but your membership fee still helps fund the programs and supplies provided for our students.  Additional dollars are raised through Market Days.

Who should join PTA?

As the name implies, both parents and teachers are members of the Jefferson School PTA.  We are proud to say that we had 100 percent participation among the Jefferson staff last year, and we hope to repeat that again this year.  We also encourage grandparents and other caregivers to become members.

How can I be part of PTA when I work all day?

There are many opportunities to help our students. The membership fee alone comprises nearly 10 percent of our yearly budget. Unlike the elementary school PTA experience that often involves volunteering during the school day, most of our middle school events are held after school or in the evening.  You also can donate packaged foods and drinks for events, or bake for Teacher Appreciation Day. Choosing items from the Market Days brochure while making your grocery list will help too.

How much does it cost?

Membership in Jefferson PTA is $6.  With membership support from the parents, teachers, staff and other caregivers in our community, we can generate nearly 10 percent of our annual operating budget.

How does the Jefferson PTA raise money?

Our primary sources of funding are membership dues and Market Days purchases.

So where does the money go?

The Jefferson PTA sponsors after-school dances with the Student Council, Teen Nights to give our students a safe, supervised environment for socializing, the 8th grade dance and staff appreciation days. We also purchase liability insurance coverage for students during our events.
